The song, G.I Jive by Johnny Mercer was written during World War II. The song contains very “catchy” language, it contains many rhyming words and inspirational language. The lines “Outta your seat, into the street, make with the feet, reet!” create the feeling of excitement and that is what makes the song very powerful, by inspiring excitement in the listener. The song appears to be very pro-war because it wants to recruit men into the military by showing how beneficial the being in the military can be by showing how great the experience can be, in the song the singer sings “‘You go get your breakfast in a beautiful little caf they call “The Mess.’” The song is supportive of the foreign policy during World War II, because the foreign policy had stated that Americans should fight for their freedom and other countries freedom, and since the song is in support of war then it would be in support of the foreign policy, because the song shows how being a soldier fighting for his freedom could be fun. The song shows how war affects society because people wrote songs in support of war and wanting people to recruit and fight for their freedom as well. It also shows how the life of the soldier is and how that affects them through the lines, “After you wash and dress, more or less, “‘You go get your breakfast in a beautiful little caf they call “The Mess,’” and that shows it how it can affect the individual as well. I agree with the song in the sense men should be proud of what they are fighting for and that they should enlist in the military because the United States needed troops to stop the Japanese and German threats. I also believe that the song was very necessary to create morale and excitement for being a soldier in World War II which the song does very well because it rhymes, shows the benefits of being a soldier and the respect that comes with being one. |
